Treasure Chest Update August 2006-09-13
Wow what a summer! Treasure Chest begun with hardly any staff in tow but by first day of camp we had the 20 camp counsellors needed and 40 kids registered. This camp we had slightly less than the 55 children who attended our Easter Treasure Chest and more staff. This made for a significantly lower stress level for everyone. Camp counsellors with Treasure Chest are required to use every talent they have from dance, drama, art and craft to cricket, football and getting kids belayed up our climbing wall. What a terrific bunch of counsellors we had this summer, they worked hard helping the kids develop their bible stories into dramas for devotions each day, teaching and encouraging our kids to pray for kids around the world and still had time to do creative expression and water balloon fun! What a blast. This camp saw much improvement in the kids as we worked along with kids who are accustomed to answering all things with violence, we saw communication winning out and no fights throught-out the entire camp was a huge success! Pats on the backs to all the kids and counsellors. Summer was fun and I could not have done it without the partnership of volunteers from past DTSes, University of Cave Hill campus in Barbados, past Mission Adventures graduates and of course our staff. We look forward to all that God has for us again at Christmas camp. May God bless you all richly!
